Elton Manor

Excavation was undertaken on the site of the Ramsey Abbey's manor at Elton in advance of earthmoving work undertaken by the local Water Authority. The site was known from air photographs and the set of extensive documents that survive for the manor which are preserved in the Public Records Office. Several buildings were identified during the excavation that could be related to details with these documents. Thus it was possible to identify the chapel and great hall of the 13th and 14th centuries and some of the outlying buildings such as barns and service rooms.
