Caldecott - Watching Brief

A recent contract at Caldecott in Rutland was concerned with the conversion of a series of outbuildings which were grade II listed buildings and thus required a full building survey before contractors could start work. Pre-Develop Archaeology carried out the work for the client and also incorporated an archaeological 'Watching Brief' of the site during the digging of both internal and exterior foundations- thus saving the client the expense of having two separate survey made at differing times.

The work, at an 18th century house with its array of extensive outbuildings, recorded various phases of building on the site and showed this part of the village of Caldecott had developed. The work complied with the requirements of the local county archaeological authority and was undertaken ahead of the work schedule set out by the contractors, allowing them full access to the site on the day they wanted to start.
